A good housewife, I will not make because....

1. I am not after five years in architecture school, 1-2 years in Grad School,3-5 years struggling for my license, and all the ensuing shenanigans going to pack up and stay at home and be cleaning a house and chasing bomboy. I am lazy/ crazy but not that lazy/ crazy.

2. For my sanity and that of my children, I believe it is imperative for both of us to take some time away from each other. Hence, beautiful inventions like my practice and their schools and if they are just too much, then boarding house.

3. What is the point? If a man is going to leave me, he is going to leave me. Giving up my life is no guarantee he will stay and pursuing my dreams is no indication either. But in the event, it happens, I need to have something to take my mind off the idea of going after him with the maiguard's shakabula. I will just go to work.

4. I need to wear a skirt suit from time to time. Who will admire my fine yansh at home. Bomboy and Lil'Cat will be too busy drooling or watching...sponge bob?

5. My mouth is too big. I don't know (m)any men that really value the role of a stay-at-home mother. So, they come home, they feel you have been doing nothing all day. "Catwalq, where is my food?" And I will say, "I don't know. Where did you put it?"

6. The role does not run in my family. I come from a long line of opinionated, working women.

7. That is a one way ticket to being absorbed with insignificant issues; like the thread count on your sheets.

8. I need to have my own account that has money coming in from a place he does not know. I am sorry, maybe it's watching too many Nigerian films or just simply being Nigerian but the only Joint account I am keeping is for school fees, rent, household expenses and bills. That way, one day if he shows up with one secondary school girl and says he wants to marry her, I can say "No, problem. Sign the divorce papers. Pay the alimony and child support( and you best believe I will be collecting) and move out (what, you thought I would pack out? Is his father a baga?)

9. If I was simply going to sit at home and make babies, i wouldn't have bothered with school. My ovaries are cool, they are popping. I could have been reproducing from age 11.

10. I never played with my dolls. I chewed them. They were tasty

11. I don't care what anybody has to say about it

Ok so u just want to add to the number(s) and history of working women in ur family...dunno how i feel abt that.

Life is what u make it ..it sounds like u have already planned the way u want things to go but u never know ..it is easier said than done ..U might change ur mind when push comes to shove.

But i definately 100% agree with No.8..lol

I THINK UR JUST RUNNING UR MOUTH ABT THIS WHOLE ISSUE ..I totally agree with Nyemoni. x x x

n i thot i was the only career woman around!lmao.. This was too funny!

My sista, i dont see my self sweating it all out in skul n then packing up the whole PAPER at home cos hubby wants me to be fulltime housewife. Tufiakwa!

LMAO!! My ovaries is cool, my ovaries be popping. What u know about Cat. Whatcha whatcha know about Cat?

I gbadun your steez my love. As per No.5 don’t forget that there are many things that a man likes about a big mouth. You have blogged about this in the recent past sef.

There are fortunately many men who are not really after the dedicated stay at home mom. No be say housewife na bad ting o! - It is just not for all women. I know 'nuff relationships where both man and women seem down with that and that's cool. Me, I'm after a more balanced kinda woman. One that will always try and better hereself yet knows how to throw it down in the kitchen without setting fire to the crib. It's aboout balance I think. E no easy but it is very possible.

i thought i was the only one who felt this way.my brother is always criticising me bout this..sez dey'll just ju mi sile and ask biliki the housegirl to take my place.
..i mean the housewife thing...hmm doesnt sit well with me...never has,i always have to be up and doing..making that paper..lol @ the seperate account thingie..like u been dey read my mind...anyways i dnt tend to be too much of a career woman that i dont get to spend time with kids n family.

Temi said...

I loved this post!I agree with you. Its a matter of personal chioce though. Some women would prefer to bring uo their children at home. I always why we spend so much time in school . To become house wives. there is nothing wrong with that , i believe that is the hardest job in the world.

my dear. i have been trying to say the to my friends ohh. them no gree listen. at this time and age. it is veryyyyy risky to be an housewife. u dont need any man to bomb-rush u any second.

Lolol,

I support 110%, mi papi did not send me to school to end up counting threads and polishing glass.

Mami has gats to have money on the side and I'm sure we can pay someone to polish the glass.

lol, nice one catwalq,lol

okay fine miss Catwalq, after having kids, I'll baby-sit whiles you go get that money...finally a woman that's thinking straight, where have you been all my life??

Ms. Catwalq said...

Geisha: exactly

Nyemoni: that is what they all say.

Arewa:You make it sound like being a working woman is a bad thing or keeping up the tradition is an eronous thought. I disagree.

Manda: u r not alone my sister

AtutuP: That is why I am going to marry you now.

ExScN: ignore ur brother joo. Being a working mother is all about balance. I just get irritated when my success is being equated to mean that I must be a delinquent mother. Like I said, I was raised by one and I am turning out terrific. Fantabulous

Temi: anything a woman does is hard. I am just not doing what has been done and done and done.

100%: we can form a club o. we'll meet once a month and everything

Ugo:why, r u one of those men who will come home and expect dinner to be waiting for u?

30+: I promise u, they were very tasty. I swear. Especially the ball-and-socket part of the arms and legs

Nwanyi: mo like e joo

D.O.G: so, u r saying you will just sit at home and be waiting on me? No sweetie, I need a working man too. We can have a swedish governess for the kids

Catwalq, you this crzy babe!

Come on girl, your view on stay at home moms is too simplistic. Some stay at home moms run businesses and so they still get to wear that fine ass skirt suit and make money too. And, they can always wear that suit for their man, as well. Role play never hurt nobody!

Also, some men actually value their 'housewife' even if she stays at home. They thus work their butts off to make sure that she can do what she wants, be what she wants and pay her a fat @$$ mommy-check twice a month!

Cheers to all the stay at home moms (and their men) that have their act together!

lol!

So, your husband can't be a stay at home dad either? Ol' girl you tough oh!

U're my babe, jo. A da fun e! #s 3,5,6,8 -- dat just concludes d matter.
Go girl, i gotcha ya back. Na who dash monkey

Hey you..

Like others have mentioned, I guess it's what you make of it. Also, if you're with a guy who you reckon will become a home tyrant, then you might want to bail ship. Many guys have a repugnant and imbecilic mindset about the role of the woman, and also twist certain scriptures for the 'woman to be submissive'. Yet, these same guys hate to finish off the rest of the verse where it's a two way thing.

But this is life: the best laid plans do go North at times, so what ever you do want out of life in a relationship, here's hoping it goes accordingly. (hope I haven't just been rambling here!:-)

@Unnaked: wink right back at ya

@Solomonsydelle: if the woman is running a business from home, then she is a working mother. I don't want to work from my house.

what kind of sadists do we have in blogsville these days?

My sisters had barbie dolls. I abducted them sometimes and let them play with my mouth. But I never chewed.

Oops, this is a serious faux pas! I've gone to confess my childhood fetish on blogsville!

You didn't just describe a good housewife IMHO. Some housewives have very fulfilling lives and don't just cater to their husband and children.
Remember this as you experience more of life, your opinions will change.
Just try to do what you believe you're meant to do

STAY AT HOME MOMS: Not all stay-at-home moms create a healthy environment for their children. Often, stay-at-home mom resent not being able to provide for her children. Mommy, “Why can’t we live in a big house like cousin Richy-Rich?” or “Why can’t we go to Disneyland like the neighbors?” This would make any mom feel like a loser. How is a mother to respond to her child? “We can’t afford anything because mommy chooses NOT to work, now shut-up an eat your spam.”
